NOMEX®
and KAPTON® laminates for motor insulation: N/M/N and
N/K/N
Laminates of Nomex® paper bonded to polyester film or Kapton® are extensively used as primary insulation for Class F and H applications in the electrical industry, in particular for low voltage motors as slot insulation, phase barrier and interturn insulation. For lower temperature requirements polyester film bonded to presspaper is available.
These combinations produce an insulating material that has the best balance of properties of electrical strength, thermal endurance and mechanical strength. Various laminates are offered, the following are the more common types:
